ORCHIDS AT THE HUASCARAN NATIONAL PARK
Introduction
The Huascaran National Park has an area of 2260 square miles and is located in the Department of Ancash
about 260 miles Northeast of Lima, and includes elevations from 9000 feet to 22200 feet, the latter being the height of the highest mountain in Peru,
"The Huascaran", the third highest mountain in South America.
The Park was establishedi in 1975, Unesco declared it an international Biosphere Reserve in 1977 and a World Natural Heritage Site in 1985.
Within the boundaries of this park 19 species of orchids are known to exist, the most beautiful one, in my opinion is Masdevallia amabilis that exists in red, purple and white varieties, the latter being very difficult to find.
The species that were found and photographed in this region.
